Pienza - Val d'Orcia - Siena - Tuscany

The Moricciani family lives on a farm called Podere San Gregorio. It is located on the edge of the town of Pienza, just a ten-minute drive from Castelmuzio and a one-minute walk from the old walls of the town.

The farm has 80 hectares (approx. 200 acres) of fields, orchards, and gardens for growing olives, grapes, wheat, barley, fava beans, and a wide variety of vegetables and fruits. They have quite a variety of small farm animals (pigs, chickens, guinea hens, rabbits), and this is where they make their wine and store the olive oil.

Guests are able to purchase Cretaiole’s low-sulphites house wine "Zero", and Cretaiole's Orcia Rosso DOC wine made with 100% Sangiovese grapes, as well as Cretaiole’s IGP Toscano extra virgin olive oil. The olives are picked during the end of the year (October-December), always by hand—never mechanically, and taken to the olive press immediately.

For their family’s and guests' use, the farm produces a variety of meats such as sausage, prosciutto, and salami; fresh eggs; pecorino cheese aged in walnut leaves; more than a dozen types of vegetables; fruits such as plums, figs, walnuts, persimmons, and almonds; herbs such as rosemary, sage, chives, thyme, parsley, marjoram, borage, and mint; and homemade liqueurs—Luciano’s grappa and vin santo are simply the best!

Their tasting tours, which are part of the Dolce Vita Stay, are a special treat for the guests, giving them the opportunity to taste the family’s farm products. It's the perfect activity to experience Tuscany’s finest qualities—its food and wine, while for children it's the chance to visit a real working farm with animals, and to experience an exciting tractor ride!
